Mobile Marketing and Small Business: An Overlooked Marketing Plan Finally on the Rise

Today, it would be grossly negligent to try to run any business without computers, internet access and a web presence. More recently, social media seemed like a strange experiment and many businesses hesitated to join Facebook, Twitter and other outlets. The businesses who hopped on board and built friend lists, gained Facebook “likes” and developed a following benefitted greatly while the naysayers simply colored themselves irrelevant.

So, what is the next big marketing innovation for small business owners? Many experts see targeted mobile marketing as the newest frontier. If this is true, what strategies can be used to succeed in the new world of mobile web based marketing? And, what are benefits of being one of the renegade few companies who jump in first?

Mobile phones have become as near and dear to most individuals as their wallets and handbags. The International Telecommunication Union reports that over 5 billion people are subscribed to cell phone plans worldwide and in the United States, 9 out of every 10 people uses a mobile phone. Mobile phones, unlike television sets, radios and computers are almost always within arm’s length.

Marketing to potential customers via their mobile phone begins to make alot of sense when research studies report that at least 10% of all online searches, one of the most popular ways people seek information about products and services, are performed on mobile phones. Over 95% of new phones are equipped with mobile web browsers and, in the United States, 70 million or more consumers use their mobile device to browse the web regularly.

The mobile web is already currently used by 120 million people and experts predict that, in the next three years, all purchasing decisions made by United States consumers will be influenced in some way by the mobile internet. This will be an interesting trend to watch because, in general, mobile web users have a different customer profile than traditional web users and catering to them requires non-traditional thinking. Rather than a fancy website with rich graphics and complicated animation features, mobile web users prefer to see a basic template with the simple facts about a product or service.

Instant gratification features, such as a button that makes restaurant reservations in real time or immediate mapping from the mobile device to your location, appeal to the mobile web user demographic. Google Maps and the review site Yelp are popular mobile web applications and most experts say that having a social media presence is also seen as very favorable among mobile web users.

A very exciting trend, custom mobile apps, gives individuals and businesses the opportunity to create their own program for download. By designing a custom app, you will impress your potential customers, promote your brand and possibly even make an additional income from download sales.

Mobile marketing, which generally utilizes text messaging to send product or promotional information to potential customers, can target a specific customer base via the mobile web. Text messaging is one of the hottest trends in communication worldwide.

With over one trillion text messages sent through cell phone plans in 2008, and that number growing daily, it can be assumed that most consumers are comfortable and web savvy enough to respond favorable to text message marketing. In fact, research from Mobile Marketing Watch suggests that 70% of consumers respond to text message marketing while only 30% respond to email marketing.

Considering how important mobile web usage is predicted to become in the next few years, and the influence it is expected to have on shoppers, one might assume that small businesses were jumping in the gap between old online shopping and new mobile web commerce. But, they are not. In fact, according to some surveys, less than 7% of small businesses have optimized their website for mobile web users and more than 60% view mobile marketing as a newfangled idea that is too cutting edge to actually be successful.

We are at a unique forefront in the world of commerce and technology. The small businesses and companies who jump in wholeheartedly and embrace the new world of mobile web browsing by catering to the needs of this growing customer base will likely reap huge rewards. By utlizing the focused power of text message marketing, taking simple steps to optimize their websites for mobile browsers, installing mobile commerce features and mobile apps that make information gathering easy for consumers and utilizing social media features like Facebook’s “Likes” and “check-ins”, these cutting edge businesses will dare to succeed in the new age of technology driven commerce.

Should You Start An Internet Business?

Do you want to run an internet business? Or do you want money? I have to be honest, a lot of times people come to me for one reason only – they want to make more money and they turn to the internet to be their saving grace.

So, in this short article, I’m gonna give you a few tips to figure out if this business is right for you or not.

If you are dead broke, in debt up to your eyeballs, and about to be kicked out of your home, now may not be the best time to start an online business.

It’s sad really, how many people go online to get help starting a business when what they really need is to get a decent job, save a few bucks, and create a strategy to change their life.

Now don’t get me wrong. I am not going to tell anyone to give up on their hopes and dreams, far from it. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that when I got my “start” on the internet I was definitely not in financial shape. (or physcial shape haha). But, I was able to turn things around with the help of a mentor.

I got lucky to meet her and my life has never been the same. I know not everyone has that chance.

But let’s get back on point here.

WHY do you want to start an internet business?

Is it to work 5 hours a week and make a million dollars? Because I’ll stop you right now and send you on your way. It’s not going to happen. And I hate to be so blunt, but it’s the truth.

An online business is a real business. It takes work, focus, determination, and a little bit of brain power.

I’m not saying you have to be a genius by any means, but you need to have a good head on your shoulders.

Finally, if you say you want to have an internet business… what kind do you want? What do you want to sell? I suggest you create something based on passion, not just potential for profit.

This will practically guarantee you at least keep at it long enough to see if it’s going to work. If you don’t start with passion, you’ll end with failure.

And I apologize for this “negative” post, but I want people to get serious. We are in a financial crisis here in the U.S. and the only person who can help you is you. You can’t depend on other people.

Now is the time to get your financial house in order. Get a plan in place. If it’s starting your own online business…awesome. There’s no better time than right now.

If it’s just getting a better job or saving more money… then start with that. And when you are ready to make the move – make it quick. Don’t wait forever, because opportunity seldom knocks twice.

How To Make Money Selling Information Products Online

Lately on the internet, there’s been a really big push all about making money selling information products online. And hey, I can’t say I don’t agree with the principle. I’ve been selling information for almost 4 years now, and it definitely has a LOT of benefits. In this article, I’m going to show you exactly how to make money selling information products online.

Because the truth is, it’s not rocket science. And anyone REALLY can do it if they have a few easy steps to follow. Here are those steps. Copy, Profit, Repeat.

Getting Started With Information Product Creation

The first step is finding and/or creating an information product to sell. To be honest this is the easiest part. They usually come in one of these formats:

1) Ebook, PDF, anything written.

2) Audio/Video/Multimedia. Anything you listen/watch.

3) Software/Entertainment. This includes tools, and even hollywood movies.

You probably never thought about it but music, film, tv…all that is really just information. You are paying for what’s on the CD…not the CD itself. In reality, a CD cost about 3 cents. But put an artist we like on it and we’ll gladly pay $15 for it. (Or at least buy it on itunes).

So, step one to make money selling information products online is to create your product. You can do this by first finding a potential niche to target to. This is a secret most people miss out on. Before you can create a product, you MUST know who you are going to sell it to. This is especially true with information products.

You must find a target market, I call it a “starving crowd”. This is a group of people ready and willing to buy your product. Where do you find them? Look for forums and groups on yahoo. Google search your “idea+forum”. So if you were trying to produce information products about dog training, look in dog training forums.

Find out what they are buying and make something like it. If you don’t know, then find an expert. Interview them. Record it. Transcribe the interview. Now you have an ebook AND an audio to sell online.

That’s truly how easy it is. But now what?

So Now You Have Information Products To Sell

Your next step is to setup a system that sells the information product for you. If you don’t have this, then you don’t have anything to sell. In essence you need to create an online marketing system. This all starts with a website. And it can’t be just any old website. You have to make sure it’s setup for success. You should have a great story that goes along with your product.

This is done through what is called copywriting. Copywriting just means writing sales material to sell your product. This is one of the most overlooked details when it comes to making money selling information products. I highly recommend you check out copywriting programs as soon as you can.

What Are The Best Information Products?

It’s not always easy to decide what the best information products are. This is because you can’t really compare them. The truth is that it all comes down to the quality you put into each product. You can make a lot of money online selling information products because there is very little hard cost.

Think about it. If you sell TV sets, there’s a hard cost there. You have to buy the TV’s, store them, then sell them. You (hopefully) make enough money back to pay for everything. With this type of business, you have no real expense beyond creating the product one time. (Th ebook or audio/video, etc.)

Once you have this, every sale is basically 100% your money to keep. And the more you sell, the more you will profit. This is especially true if you are selling online as a download. There’s no cost to print your product, make a CD, or ship it. It’s all done instantly online.

Your only expenses are the original creation of the product, hosting it on the web, and the cost of getting traffic to your site. As long as your expenses are less than your income, you are doing great. And this applies to the marketing of information products and services as well. That’s why I recommend both of these business models to so many people.

Making Money Quick: 3 Ideas To Make Money Fast

If you need help making money quick, then listen up. This short article shows you exactly to make money fast with 3 proven ideas. Sure, you’ve got to take a little action, but I’m talking about making money quick, like as fast as tonight. So, let’s not waste anytime. If you follow along, you can truly get money quick. Here’s 3 ideas to make money fast:

Make Quick Money Online

The fastest and easiest way to make some money right now is to look through your attic, garage, and wherever else you (or your spouse) keeps your junk. Find everything you can  and list it on Ebay. You’d be surprised how many people buy stuff on ebay…stuff that you honestly would rather just throw away.

Selling some of your old collectibles can produce a pretty penny as well. I’ve seen a friend of mine sell his old coins for thousands of dollars online. Ah, the power of Ebay.

Now let’s pretend for a second you don’t have a garage full of stuff (you know you do!). What can you do then? Here’s a supertip for you. Go to sites like freecycle.com and see what people are giving away for FREE. Go pick it up, then sell that on ebay. A little cheezy I know, but hey, you did say you want to be making money quick, right?

If that doesn’t product enough money fast enough for you, try this:

Get Quick Money Given To You

Let’s face it. We all know someone with money. Heck, in my family I’M the one with money! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve coughed up thousands of dollars for a friend of family member. Sister needs college money? Here ya go. Mom needs knee surgery? Got it. Friend needs a new laptop for his job? Sign me up!

So, sadly you aren’t my friend (yet!) or in my family. But odds are you know someone who has a few extra bucks laying around. Make the phone call. Tell them what you need. Make sure you use a REASON WHY. That’s what it’s all about. I need $1,000 because I want to start an online marketing business and I can get a personal coach to help me setup everything, Uncle Rich. (like that name? ;)

If begging and pleading doesn’t work, don’t worry. There are other alternatives.  You can hit up payday loan and cash advance places. There in your town. Google them. They are not the best places usually and I don’t really like the practice. I’d only recommend them if it was such a necessity that life and limb were on the line.

Otherwise, I’d keep working on Uncle Rich or check in Granny. But, what if you’ve got no family with money and time is running out. You’ve got to make money fast…and I mean quick. Like , yesterday, even. Here’s the real secret to making money quick:

Make Money Working Online

Ok, so by now you’re expecting me to sell you something. But, don’t worry. I’ve got something you can do for free to make quick cash. You might not like it, but it is pretty fast and easy.

Join Elance.com. It’s free to join. (yay!) You can setup an account and start doing any odd jobs you possibly can. Companies and people like me put jobs on there that pay anywhere from $50 all the way up to the tens of thousands. I’d start small if I were you. Focus on what you can already do.

Some examples are accounting, copywriting, editing, translation, web design, virtual assistant, and a lot more. If you can’t find anything you can do there then try these 2 sites:

Fiverr.com and MTurk.com

They don’t pay as much, but the jobs you can do are a lot easier. Actually, the site Fiverr.com is up to you. You post what job you will do for $5.00. It can get a little crazy in there. But hey, $5 is $5 right?

If you don’t mind putting in a little effort you can setup a blog and find affiliate offers to promote. You can setup a free blog at Blogger.com or WordPress.com. Pick a niche you like. Could be knitting, writing, whatever. Use Clickbank.com and CJ.com to find affiliate offers you can add to your blog. When people click your affiliate links and buy, you get paid.

Through CJ.com you can even promote Ebay products. What do you know, we’ve come full circle. To make even more money off your blog, you can add google adsense. These are ads that google runs on your site and when your visitors click the ads you get paid. Sometimes I get clicks that pay me $2-$4. Isn’t that cool?

1 click an hour and you’re making decent money everyday.

What have we learned about making money quick?

So, what have we learned? If you’re looking to make money fast you’re easiest option is to start with ebay. Go through the garage, the attic, wherever and start listing. Just think, you can make a few bucks AND finally see your garage floor again. After you’ve exhausted your ebay stash, start calling the friends and family. At least one of them has some money they need to give to somebody. What not you? I heard Uncle Rich is waiting for your phone call. Just remember, after you say how much you need, follow up with the word because and explain why.

And after that…go to elance.com. Find odd jobs, do them. Make money fast and easy. Quickly, even. It’s all up to you.  Good luck, though with these ideas to make money fast you won’t need luck.

Marketing In A Recession

is this recession real? how does it affect your bottom line?I’ve been consulting with a local business the last few weeks. I may help them with bringing a lot of their marketing online and getting them on facebook, twitter, and google. The unholy trifecta. But, that’s not what this article is about. I arrived a little early for our meeting and my local business guy was working with a customer.

I had to wait about 5 minutes while he finished up with this client. What I heard was absolutely awesome. It made my day, and perhaps even my whole week. My client’s business is golf. But not just any kind of golf, he actually tweaks golf clubs, heads, and grips and guarantees to take strokes off your game JUST from changing your clubs.

And from what I’ve seen, it works. I’m gonna have to get my clubs out again and get my “tweaks” so I can hit the golf course in style soon enough. But, that’s not what this article’s about either. Here’s what it IS about.

As I waited for my meeting I watched as a couple looked over the clubs, got measured, picked out grips, and got themselves ready to make a purchase.  Remember, they were paying for tweaking a handful of clubs. When the bill came due it was $580. Did the couple flinch and complain about a recession? Did they ask about the unemployment rate? Did they question the price “in this economy”.

Nope. The lady busted out her checkbook and started writing. And when it was all said and done the couple left. And they left happy. They’ll be back in a few days to pick up their new and improved golf clubs.

So, the first question we need to ask ourselves is this one…

Is There A Recession In The USA?

Answer: Technically yes. There is. There, I said it. But that doesn’t mean what you may think it means. No matter the economy, the situation, or whatever, there is always a group of people ready and willing to spend money on what they want. That’s the nature of us humans. Do some people save a little extra money or cut back? Sure, but that doesn’t mean you can’t turn a profit in this market place.

You’ve got to go where the money is. Every market has it’s best buyers. The wealthy, the affluent, the dedicated. The nut. Whatever you want to call him. That’s where the money is. So instead of focusing on those who AREN’T buying, focus on those who are.

How To Make Money In A Recession

You make money in a recession just like you do any other time of economic season. You make sure you have a product or service you’d sell your own Mom and you do your best to make it affordable to the most amount of people possible. Or, you increase the price and you focus on making more money per sale. You really have those two options. Both are ok, but I personally like bringing prices down and increasing the amount of people I sell to.

In the Intenet Marketing industry, where I run several businesses, I am focusing more on providing FREE content up front, really delivering value. And wherever possible, I am making money with advertising and sponsors as opposed to direct selling. This is something I chose to do because I want to get the word out on how to make money in this recession to a lot more people.

Now that doesn’t mean I don’t sell products, beacause I do. One idea I ask myself is this:

What value added service can I throw into this offer to make it a real no brainer purchase for the customer?

In my last product I ended up adding on a complete website setup and install. My customers LOVE IT and it’s something I can do for them. It just takes a little more time, but with my team already in place I don’t have to spend as much in cash.

Calm Your Recession Fears

Whenever I talk with customers or clients, some of them bring up the F word. Fear. They’re scared. And I understand that. Any uncertainty can lead way to fear. But, here’s what’s really important. Don’t focus on what you don’t have. Focus on what you do have. Imagine if you turned on the news and every night you heard this instead of the usual negativity.

Great news tonight. The employment rate today hit 90.8%. More than 9 out of every 10 people are working and being productive.

Wouldn’t that be cool. I’m sure if we started talking about the EMPLOYMENT rate instead of the UNEMPLOYMENT rate, just that would have a positive impact on our situation.

So here’s what I want you to come away with from this article. Out there, everyday, there are millions of people spending money on what they want. They don’t care what the news says. They have a hobby, or a business, or something they want to do and they are willing to spend money on it.

Your job is to sell to these people. There’s money everywhere. As a matter of fact, money never vanishes, never dies. When the stock market goes down, that money doesn’t leave. It goes to the people who bet on it crashing! The same amount of money is here today that was here yesterday. And tomorrow too.

Go after the market you want. Appeal to desire. People are spending money. Why don’t you get in on the action?
