How A Mom Can Start An Online Business

From Mike Antoni: This is a guest blog post from Kasia Greco. Kasia is both a Mom and an Entrepreneur. She coaches woman on how to balance career and family. As well, she helps Moms start or grown their own online businesses. She is a great friend of mine and an incredible person. You won’t find someone who cares about your success as much as Kasia. Make sure you check out her site and share it with a friend.

With no further ado, here’s some GREAT info from Kasia:

Did you ever think that life is not fair?

Did you ever come across situations where people told you that you were lucky … and you were not able to realize or feel it yourself?

Did it occur to you to just want to press some kind of reset button and restart your life – or certain areas of it?

Well, all of the above and even more things passed through my mind and thoughts … and do you know what I did? I did press the reset button … but it was a long and difficult way to do so: It took a lot of struggle, especially emotional struggle, in my case, for me to realize that my two boys were, and are, my reason and my dream. Having a reason is actually the very first thing you need, a real reason, a real driver that almost forces you to change things in your life, aspects of your life that do not suit you, that do not make you happy.

And then … it is not done with just having a reason and eventually finding out what you really want. The really difficult part starts only then, the way to achieve it. And to do so it takes a lot of focus and determination; but the good news is: you can make it and you will realize along the way that it definitely is worth each single step, each suffer along the way … if just your reason is big enough.

The way to achieving this insight may be a different one for you than it was for me, but this was my way of discovering my reason and my dream and I want to share it with you.

First of all, I had  to be very clear in my mind, and in my heart, what I wanted  to do and what I needed to do to make my dreams come true. What I wanted to do, was and is, to spend more time with my boys. I wanted to be the most important person in their lives. I wanted to take an active part in their lives. I wanted to ‘be there’ for them in every possible way. I also wanted to start my own business. I decided to start my own business and be self-employed by going online, learning and doing business there. However, my  main goal was and still is to find the best possible way to help other women around the world, to encourage them and support them. Empowering women all around the world, to making them find the extraordinary in the ordinary of the challenges in daily life, between family and career, house and friends.

A lot of people thought I was crazy to think of setting up an online business, especially during these difficult economic and financial times. Not being familiar with the requirements of setting up such a business, it was a real struggle for me. Initially, I tried looking for other job opportunities. I tried to get a part time job as a manager. Part-time, because I wanted to spend more time with my sons. However, nobody wanted a part time manager.

So, I finally decided to set up my own business. Since a lot of people did not agree with this idea, I felt quite lonely. I knew this would take a huge effort on my part, and I would also have to struggle to achieve this. But I was determined to make it happen. I recalled to myself, how my parents had worked hard. How they had come here with only a little suitcase and nothing else. Through sheer hard work, they gave my sister and me the best education, the best clothes, and, the best of everything in life. I now realized I wanted to give my boys the same kind of life that my parents had given me. The best, so that they would not lack anything, material or spiritual, they should have enough toys to play with and enough of my time to play with them.

With the support of my husband, I managed to set up my online business. He has always supported me in everything I wanted to do. Now, I would be working from home. Now, I would be working globally. I would be able to contact millions of people. I could also contact people in different languages. I know six languages, it wouldn’t be difficult.  But, getting to this point was not easy. I had to make some tough decisions. Like, having to quit my secure corporate job. Life was hectic and difficult, and I wanted to be a part of my children’s lives. To be able to do that, I had set up an online business, and had started working from home. There were times when I felt lonely. There were times when I felt exhausted physically and drained emotionally. Sometimes, my determination and my resolve would be replaced with self-doubts. There were times when my emotions would get the better of me, and I would end up crying.

Still, I knew I had to stay focused on my dream. Each time I would feel lost, I would get inspiration by thinking about how my parents struggled and worked hard to give me the wonderful life they did, and how I had to duplicate that life for the boys. I created my inner circle of people, who encouraged me and supported me. People I knew I could trust and depend on. People like my husband, my parents, my sister, my in-laws, and a few of my friends with whom my friendship had stood the test of time. It is important for you to know your true friends from fair-weather friends. It is when you are facing tough or difficult times that you can distinguish who your true friends are, and which ones might discourage you or even be jealous of your potential to succeed.

Another important aspect in achieving your dream is, to keep focused on your goal. You might often feel alone on your way. But never let the burning desire in you fade away. Always stay focused on your dream and keep making adjustments in your life in ways that will not just help you to achieve your dream, but also perhaps even facilitate it. Let your inner strength be like strong pillars, which support big structures. If the pillars are strong, the structure remains intact. If the pillars become weak, the structure will fall. In the same way, if you keep your inner strength, you will be able to achieve your dream. If you lose your inner strength, you will lose your determination and focus. For this I feel truly blessed that I have an encouraging and supportive husband.

One more aspect of achieving your dream is the ability to organize your life. Once I started my online work, I had to manage my time between my children and my work. Since I wanted to take a very active part in my children’s lives, I made sure that I was constantly with them for as much time as they would be home. I would do my work when I had the time, like the hours when they would be at school and working after they would go to bed. I would also work during school holidays, adjusting to the schedule of my boys. Nothing in this world is free, and sometimes you have to pay a higher price in order to make your dream come true. The price I have to pay is high too. But I am willing to pay, and determined to succeed, as my prize, my dream, is even bigger!

I sincerely wish this blog inspires you to take a step back and look at your life. Understand your real dream and your real motivation. Mike Antoni Manifesto

I’ve had a whirlwind month. I decided to go back to school so I can reach my ultimate dream of getting an MBA degree. It’s not always fun, but it is exciting. Beyond that, I met a girl back in December and as of this weekend, we’re now officially “together”. It’s a rather exciting time to say the least.

And this has caused me to really focus on what I’ve been doing, what I want to be doing, and how I can better serve my customers. (Hopefully that’s you). So, I’m writing this just to sort of reach out to you and hopefully give you a little insight into what I’ve been thinking.

What Makes Life Worth Living Anyway?

If you really are into this whole making money on the internet thing, odds are you have a reason for it. And if you’re like me, it’s just because you like money. Sure, money is awesome. I heard someone say the other day, “I don’t like money, I like the way it spends.” Made me chuckle. But let’s get serious here for a minute.

The real reason you want to work from home, or make a lot of money is so you can do more things with your family, right? Right now, I am really enjoying myself because my business runs even when I’m not around. I spent Sunday at Epcot in Disney with my girlfriend. While I was there having a blast, my business brought money in for me automatically.

Even as I write this from the comfort of my home, I have lots of automatic ways of making money online. And that’s great for me right? I’m gonna make another assumption here. I’d bet you’ve been trying to make money on the internet for a while. You’ve probably bought a lot of stuff and tried a few different things.

But no matter how hard you’ve tried, things just don’t seem to work out for you. And there’s a good reason for that.

Perception vs. Reality (The Internet Marketing Game)

In life, there is no absolute reality experienced by everyone. We all see with our eyes and then use our brains to “perceive” what just happened. That’s why 5 people can see the same car accident and give 5 different accounts of what happened. Sometimes, they can’t even agree on the color of the cars involved!

In reality, (pun intended) perception is what we go by. But how does this apply to Internet Marketing. Here’s how: The “gurus” and the internet marketing stars sell a dream. They don’t mean to. I will be honest and say I even do it myself. I’ve been doing this whole business thing since 2006. So when I say something is easy… it is – TO ME.

But to you, it probably isn’t. But common sense will tell you that you can’t sell something as “hard, difficult to learn, and very time consuming.” Who wants to buy that, right? So, we focus on the easy aspects, the parts that we like doing. But I am convinced that internet marketers put blinders on to the “reality” of the situation.

When we create a new business, we work like dogs. We are putting together all these different pages, contacting vendors, joint venture partners, writing copy, getting graphics done, working on the flow of the sales process. I mean, there is A LOT. But we sort of just “do it”. And guess what? When you’re done with it, everything really does sort of just happen and go “easy”.

But we tend to forget about the work, the hard part…the stuff we do that goes unnoticed by the masses that really creates the money. And this is the part that you don’t get to see and we don’t talk about.

How Much Money Do You Need?

I listen to Tony Robbins a lot. Really love his stuff. And he talked about how most people want to get “rich” when they don’t really need to. They just need to get enough money to cover their living expenses. Just imagine how you would feel if you brought in enough money each month to cover your house payment, electric, water, you car payment, insurance, and gas, food, credit card payments, or whatever else you had to pay for each month.

Now imagine if you could do that without a J.O.B.

Sounds pretty awesome right?

I’ve been able to do that for 5 years now. It hasn’t always been easy. And some years I make WAY more than other years. But overall, it’s been an awesome ride.

A New Way Of Internet Marketing

I’ve really taken a step back and looked at my life. And as I do that, I realize that I haven’t been “living” like I should. What I mean is that I’ve been very work focused. I guess that’s the nature of life in America. We are definitely trained to work. And I’m not saying I’m not gonna work and create like I’ve been doing.

But I am changing my priorities. I’ll be spending a lot more time with my girlfriend now. As a matter of fact, I’ve got a lot of plans (in my head) to travel with her. I’ll spend more time with my family, and I’ll focus on the things I want to do, not just my business.

And I will work less hours than I’ve ever worked before. And I plan on doing it by giving away more value than I ever have before. And I want to pass that value onto you.

I don’t want to go into it all here right now, I’ll put up a page soon to explain everything to you. I’ve got something in mind that I think you will absolutely love. It’s not meant to get you rich, it’s just meant to help you get started, make money, and eventually replace your day job so you can do what you want with your life.

That’s my new manifesto now.

I want to help people do what they want to do with their lives… even when they aren’t sure how.

Here’s How You Can Be Involved

I feel like I’ve poured out a lot in this post. And I’d love to hear from you. Please take a second right now and leave me a comment. Let me know WHY you want to make more money. Tell me about your dreams, about the things you want to do with your family. Tell me about a new love you have in your life… or the love you’ve had for years.

I just want to hear from you and connect with you on a deeper personal level. I want to know what makes you get up in the morning, and what keeps you going.

I want to hear your story. Tell me what you want and what you’re willing to do to get it… as long as you have someone to help show you the way.

I can’t wait to hear from you. God bless!

Lemonade Stand Marketing: Marketing Strategies For Local Businesses

Yesterday, while walking to the gym by my house I saw an interesting site. 2 small kids (maybe 8 years old) were sitting on the corner of my street with a lemonade stand.

I found it amusing. I remember doing stuff like that when I was a kid. Actually, I sold poems that I wrote and printed out. You could say I was an “Information Marketer” even back then. But here’s where this story gets good.

These kids weren’t selling any lemonade. I mean, nobody was stopping. Cars sped by not even thinking about stopping. To be honest, it was really hard to see these little kids and their tiny lemonade stand. I felt bad for them.

As I got closer to the kids, I heard what sounded like yelling. As I approached, I could hear it clearly now. Both kids were yelling as every car drove past.

“LEMONADE! 50 CENTS! LEMONDADE! 50 CENTS!

I laughed to myself and continued walking on. I found if funny that these little kids were trying so hard to sell lemonade and as a marketer I couldn’t believe their method. Then again, they are just kids. :)

They were screaming their lungs out as I passed, so of course I had to stop and buy a cup from them. I didn’t drink it, but I didn’t let them see that part.

But here’s what I found so amazing.

The Secret Of Marketing: Don’t Scream And Wait Around For  A Customer

These kids were doing what they could to make a sale. They had heart and they really fought. But I can safely say they MAYBE sold 2 or 3 glasses that day. $1.50 isn’t such a bad day for a kid, right? But, that’s when it hit me.

Almost every single local business is doing the same exact thing. Maybe not screaming at passing cars, but with their marketing. Most business owners don’t even advertise. They rely on word of mouth. They HOPE that someone will see their store, and stop in. The ones that do run ads are doing a little better, but most of the time their ads aren’t effective. What’s worse, they don’t know which ads work and which ones don’t.

So, if you own a local business or an internet business (or are thinking about it) then don’t be a kid trying to sell lemonade. Screaming and hoping that someone will stop is ok when you’re 8, but you’re full grown, you need a lot more than hope.

You need to create a plan of action. Don’t be afraid to market to get new customers. And more importantly, continue to market to current customers. Repeat sales are where the profits are. Don’t forget that.

So, get out there and start selling. And if you see a couple kids selling a glass of lemonade, buy a cup.

The Internet Is Still A Field Of Dreams

Have you seen the movie, “Field of Dreams”? There’s a line in that movie that pretty much everyone has heard at some point in their lives. If you build it, they will come.

Many people come to the internet because they believe that having an online business is a field of dreams. That it’s a place where people get rich with a few mouse clicks. Some even believe they can get rich without doing any work.

Well, let me tell you the truth.

The internet is STILL a field of dreams, but just like in the movie, you have to BUILD it, before they will come. What I mean by build is that you have to create an online presence. That’s a good question to ask yourself if you are just starting out. Do you have an online business presence? Are you making an impression?

That could mean you have a website online, or a blog, or you are running an ad. Do you have some sort of online presence?

You wouldn’t believe how many people talk a big game about what they’re “going” to do. Many people I meet tell me they are internet marketers, but guess what? If you don’t have an online presence than you are NOT making money online and therefore you are NOT an internet marketer.

I’m sorry if that sounds a little mean, but someone had to say it. Better it be me right now. (Smile though, cause you’re about to see for yourself how easy it is).

Ok, so to start your online field of dreams you have to build it…and by that we mean your website, your business, ads, all that fun stuff. And you can do that. You just have to step out and do it.

But the next component is that “THEY” will come. Well, first question – who are they? This is probably the biggest key to your online business success. You have to be marketing to a “they”. This means people, traffic, customers, buyers, prospects. Whatever you want to call them. You have to have people to take you up on what you’re offering.

If you don’t have this, then you are just asking for trouble. Because how sad would it be for you to build a website than have nobody show up. Wouldn’t that be a shame?

So, as you build your online business out, also make sure you keep in mind who you are marketing to. Study, do your research, make educated decisions. Learn about demographics. It really isn’t that hard. It just takes a little googling. :)

Forget about the temporary tricks and blackhat bullcrap. Focus on what’s important. You want to build a real business from the ground up. One that will last for a lifetime. You also want to make enough money to live a great life for you and your family. Go after that. Build your business. Figure out who you want your customers to be.

After all, if you build it, they will come.

Dating Based Marketing: How To Make Your Business Sexy (And Profitable!)

What is the secret to marketing your business better? Get ready to be surprised because you already know the secret. Odds are, you’ve already used it to get your spouse, fiance, or current romantic interest. The real secret to marketing your business, increasing profits, and really making your business work is relationship building and following a proven set of principles.

Here are those principles and the tie-in to  dating. Being that I’m a guy, I’ll write it from a guy’s perspective.

Step 1: Get out there and meet people / Increase the visibility of your business

When you’re single and want to get a girlfriend, you have to get out of the house. You can’t sit at home waiting for your phone to ring. You have to go to places where single people are. You have to mingle. This is not always fun, or easy. For some of us, this is the toughest part. But it’s necessary to meet enough people to find the right one.

In business, this means making sure people know you’re in business and open. Just having a website online is equivalent to sitting at home alone on a Saturday night wondering why you’re sitting home alone on a Saturday night. Just “existing” isn’t going to get you anywhere.

Step 2:  Ask for names and phone numbers / Get more leads in your business

When you’re out at the club (or the library!) and you see that cute girl standing there, you know you can’t approach her and ask her to marry you, right? That’s just not the way things work. Instead, you need to go in, make a little small talk, and go for the lead. In this case, the lead is usually her phone number and maybe an email.

And that’s it. That’s your goal. Because trying to steal her away from her friends right now is really tough. We all know that pretty girls travel in packs and if they came together they leave together. :)

But the truth is that the same principle applies in your business. Too many business owners try to “pitch” their potential clients into an order right away. They come across too strong and scare away sales. This is just like asking for  marriage right when you meet someone. Never good.

Instead, focus on getting the lead and living to fight another day. Online, this is really easy. You can setup a page that gives away free information about your product or service. Sometimes in the industry we call these “White Papers”. Very original, eh? Anyway, you want to get the person’s name, email, phone, etc.

Get all you can without lowering the number of people who give you their information. This is all a numbers game, just like dating. You may get rejected by 3 girls before one of them gives you their phone number. You may have only 1 in 4 clients give you their lead information. But that’s ok…because once you have their contact information, it’s on to step number 3.

Step 3: Build The Relationship Through Frequent Contact / Build The Relationship Through Frequent Contact

This step is cool because it applies perfectly to both situations. So, you’ve got a woman’s phone number, what do you do? You use it. In today’s world, that usually means texting. You drop her a line and wait for a response. You setup something…usually called a date.

In your business you can send emails, text messages, and even make phone calls. You whole goal is to build the relationship with your potential customer. In both cases, you have one goal now. You’ve got to get your prospect (or date) to know, like, and trust you.

You’ll never make a girlfriend out of a woman if she doesn’t like you. (unless you have a LOT of money…just kidding). Same with your business. You should be sending out more information, holding webinars and teleseminars, and so on. It’s all about spending time together. The more time you spend with your future customer, the more they will like you, know you, and trust you.

This is called relationship marketing and it’s vital to business today.

When you’re on your date, you’re basically conducting an interview with your potential partner. Jerry Seinfield said it like this:

Dating is pressure and tension. What is a date, really, but a job interview that lasts all night? The only difference between a date and a job interview is that in not many job interviews is there a chance you’ll end up naked at the end of it. – Jerry Seinfield

So, just like before there are “rules” we all follow. Don’t bring up marriage, if you want kids, and on and on it goes. These are things we do because we don’t want to scare away the other person. You could almost say we are “branding” ourselves and safe, responsible, and trustworthy.

These are the same precautions you should take as you grow your relationship with your customers. And if you do that, you’ll make it to step 4.

Step 4: The First Kiss / The First Sale

There might not be anything as exciting, exhilarating, and nerve wracking as going in for that first kiss. A million thoughts race through your mind. Is this the right time? Am I reading the signals right? Does she want this? Do I ask? No, I just go for it….KISS!

It’s a risk we all must take to advance to the next level in a relationship. It has to happen. And the best part is that we can tell a lot about our chemistry with another person from that first kiss. It’s where we find out for sure if we have the “spark”.

So it is with the first sale our customer makes. They’ve had a nice time getting to know us. They think we’re what they’re looking for. But they’re anxious, nervous, a little unsure. Busting out the credit card and making a purchase can be a little scary sometimes. Is this the right product? Is the price fair? Am I being ripped off? Should I wait? Do I want this? Is there a guarantee? Oh, Just go for it…BUY!

Every customer relationship begins with a sale. Before that point, they aren’t customers…they’re prospects. And that first sale is exciting for them. Haven’t you ever bought something and you just couldn’t wait till it got to your house. You’d come home everyday looking for that package to be on your doorstep. Oh the excitement!

Let’s Recap What We’ve Learned About Marketing Your Business

To make the first sale with your customer isn’t that hard. As long as you’ve done your work previously. You brought your customer on a series of “dates” by giving them valuable information about you and your product. You made sure they like, know, and trust you. And then you went in for the sale.

You presented your offer and made it irresistible. And they took you up on it. And don’t be fooled. That first sale has all the power and spark of the first kiss. Now it’s up to you to continue adding value to your customer so you can keep them coming back for more. Just like dating, the first kiss could also be the last kiss.

You’ve got to keep on building the relationship and going deeper with the person. You’ve got to create more shared experiences. Get to know more about each other.

And the more you do that, the more successful and profitable your business will be.
